Land Acknowledgment

“Re-indigenizing food preparation and consumption is about restoring the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical wellness of the people. Healthy food has always been central to indigenous cultures.”

–Thosh Collins, Native Wellness Institute

The San Diego Food System Alliance acknowledges, honors, and offers our gratitude to the Kumeyaay, Luiseño/Payómkawichum, Cahuilla and Cupeño/Kuupangaxwichem people and land. We recognize that this acknowledgment does not replace action. As visitors of this territory, we commit to building meaningful relationships with the original stewards of this land, and deepening our understanding of the history of colonization. Through the work of the Alliance and San Diego County Food Vision 2030, we seek to elevate ancestral wisdom and Indigenous ways of life as essential solutions to healing people and our planet.
